Catherine Chen

Catherine Chen is a leader in information governance, an evangelist of AI and blockchain. Catherine bridges the gap between business, IT, legal and compliance.

Catherine was the Head of Information Governance Practice at a global law firm – the first non-lawyer to lead the practice. Her diverse background, extensive experience in innovation, and exceptional problem-solving and organizational skills made her a key player in taking the information governance practice to the next level.

Catherine provides clients with the legal, regulatory and best practice guidance to manage their information in a legally compliant manner. Catherine has advised Fortune 500 companies on records management, privacy, cross-border data transfer, media/format, and related information governance issues.

More importantly, Catherine is keen on how new technologies (i.e., AI, blockchain, Cloud, and Machine Learning, etc.) can improve product offerings and internal efficiency, and help clients manage and further leverage their data to maximize profit and reduce risk.

Catherine completed an International Business Management program, and have a BSc (Computer Science) and MBA. She is a Certified Information Privacy Professional/Information Technology (CIPT).

Thomas Wong

Thomas is a lawyer, patent agent and trade-mark agent. His practice includes patents, trade-marks, copyright, industrial designs, open source software, IP transactions, licensing and other intellectual property matters.

Thomas drafts and prosecutes patent applications for electrical, computer/software and mechanical inventions. He regularly advises clients on a wide range of corporate and commercial transactions involving technology and intellectual property assets. He also manages trade-mark portfolios in a variety of industries.

Prior to practising law, Thomas worked for over five years at a leading semiconductor company designing reconfigurable integrated circuits and developing software. He is the co-inventor of several issued patents in this area.

Victor Liu

Victor Liu is a partner at Goodmans. His practice focuses on public and private mergers and acquisitions as well as corporate finance. Victor’s practice also includes an emphasis on counselling early-stage private enterprises (in diverse industries including pharmaceutical, renewable energy, interactive media, health care and real estate) on their growth financings, shareholders agreements and governance, as well as strategic initiatives. As a member of the firm’s emerging business group, Victor volunteers as a “legal counsel in residence” at the DMZ at Ryerson University, one of Canada’s largest business incubators for emerging tech start-ups, providing legal advice and mentorship to some of Canada’s most promising start-ups.

Victor leads the cannabis practice group at Goodmans. True to Goodmans’ entrepreneurial focus, Victor has provided expert legal advice and service to enterprising pioneers in the cannabis industry since 2013, bringing clarity to the rapidly evolving legal and regulatory landscape and providing strategic guidance to their growth and success.
