Michael T. Doi
Michael T. Doi is a Legal Director with the Ministry of the Attorney General of Ontario at the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, where he leads the delivery of legal advice and services to the Commission on a broad range of regulatory and enforcement matters. Mike is a graduate of the Royal Military College of Canada (B.A.), University of Windsor (LL.B.), University of Detroit (J.D.), and University of London (LL.M., London School of Economics), and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1995. Before joining the Commission, Mike served as a military lawyer with the Office of the Judge Advocate General in Ottawa, and later practised with a downtown firm in Toronto before serving with the Constitutional Law Branch at the Ministry of the Attorney General of Ontario. Mike teaches constitutional law at Osgoode Hall Law School and at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law. He volunteers as the President of the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers, and as the Vice Chair of the Momiji Health Care Society Board in the Japanese Canadian community.
Lucas Lung
Lucas Lung is a partner with Lerners LLP in Toronto, where he maintains a general civil and commercial litigation practice. He has appeared as counsel on behalf of corporations and individuals in trials, appeals and other hearings before numerous administrative boards and tribunals, municipal councils, private commercial arbitrations and all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada. Lucas received his J.D. from the University of Toronto in 2005 and was called to the bar in 2006. He practiced in the litigation department at McCarthy Tétrault from 2006 to 2008. In 2008, Lucas accepted the position of Dickson Fellow and Staff Lawyer at the Community Legal Clinic - Simcoe, Haliburton, Kawartha Lakes in Orillia. The fellowship was created jointly by the Dickson Circle and the Clinic to allow a junior lawyer to represent disadvantaged persons and groups in high impact social justice cases. In 2010, Lucas returned to Toronto and joined Lerners. In 2011, Lucas received The Advocates' Society Arleen Goss Young Advocates' Award for his public interest advocacy. Lucas is also a past recipient of a Lexpert "Rising Stars - Leading Lawyers Under 40" award, and has been recognized as a Litigation Lawyer to Watch in Lexpert's Guide to the Leading US/Canada Cross-Border Litigation Lawyers in Canada.
Paul Jonathan Saguil
Paul Jonathan Saguil is Associate Vice President, Innovation, Governance, and Risk Strategies in TD Bank Group's Global Anti-Money Laundering Department. He oversees key governance and risk management functions for the Canadian Banking and Digital Channels Deputy Head AML team, including the teams responsible for innovation risk management, customer risk strategy, policies, procedures, training, and monitoring. He works closely with business and risk management functions to advance TD’s innovation agenda with his understanding of emerging technologies and the fintech industry, applicable AML/ATF requirements, and the requisite underlying controls. He was formerly Senior Counsel in TD's Legal Department, managing complex litigation, disputes, and investigations involving TD's various businesses in Canada and internationally. He previously practised litigation at Stockwoods LLP, including regulatory and professional discipline matters, appeals and applications for judicial review, class actions, defamation and media law, and general civil and commercial disputes. He has appeared before all levels of courts in Ontario, the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court, and various administrative and regulatory bodies. He received his Hons. B.A. (Philosophy) from York University in 2004 and LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2007. He was awarded the Dean’s Gold Key and various academic prizes after graduating from law school, and an Alumni Gold Key in 2013, and currently serves on the Alumni Association Board. Before being called to the Bar of Ontario in 2008, he served as a judicial clerk to the Honourable Justice Phelan of the Federal Court. He is an active member of the Canadian/Ontario Bar Association and Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers; Chair of the Law Society of Upper Canada Equity Advisory Group and of the Board of Directors for Start Proud (f/k/a Out On Bay Street); and a member of the Board of Management for the 519 Community Centre.
Rosel Kim
Rosel Kim is an associate at Goodmans. She practices in the areas of corporate law, mergers and acquisitions and securities law. She advises clients in senior housing, real estate, and technology sectors.
While completing her joint degrees in common and civil law at McGill University, Rosel received the Novak-Weil Award to pursue an internship at the Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network, as well as the Korean Canadian Scholarship for academic achievement and leadership potential.
From 2015-2016, she was elected as one of the executive members of the Korean Canadian Lawyers Association (KCLA), where she now serves on the Board of Directors. She is also serving as an advisor for the only culturally Korean-Canadian long-term care home, Rose of Sharon.
In 2017, she was named one of CivicAction’s DiverseCity Fellows, an award-winning leadership training program for diverse rising leaders in the Greater Toronto area. As part of her Fellowship mandate, she co-organized and moderated a panel on Toronto’s sanctuary city policies at the 6 Degrees Conference organized by the Institute of Canadian Citizenship, an organization co-founded by the former Governor General, the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson.
