Shantanu Roy
Shantanu Roy is Crown Counsel with the Ministry of the Attorney General and the Ontario Ministry of Labour. His practice consists primarily of prosecuting offences under Ministry of Labour statutes, specifically occupational health and safety and employment standards. In addition to handling regulatory prosecutions, Shantanu has also represented the Ministry of Labour at administrative appeals before the Ontario Labour Relations Board and at Coroner’s Inquests. Prior to practicing law in the public sector, Shantanu articled for a firm specializing in labour and employment law and was a lawyer with the labour and employment law group of a full service law firm. Shantanu is fluent in French. He is a graduate of the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law, Common Law Section. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from McGill University.
John No
John No is a staff lawyer at Parkdale Community Legal Services (PCLS). After articling with the United Steelworkers, John worked for Community Advocacy & Legal Centre in Belleville, Ontario, where he helped the Centre expand its employment law services. In addition to employment law, he practised social assistance law. In 2011, John joined PCLS, where he is the Workers’ Rights Division staff lawyer. His main practice areas are wrongful dismissals, employment standards, employment insurance, and human rights.
Ian Mak
Ian Mak is a partner in McCarthy Tetrault’s Financial Services Group in Toronto. He has a corporate practice specializing in all aspects of banking and secured lending, including leveraged buyout and recapitalization transactions, syndicated financings, subordinate and mezzanine lending, bond financings, asset-based lending, cross-border and multi-jurisdictional financings and general credit matters.
Ian has significant experience advising Canadian banks and other major international institutional lenders and alternative capital providers in the negotiation and structuring of corporate and commercial credit facilities. In addition, he regularly acts for alternative asset managers, REITs, private equity funds and other financial sponsors in the negotiation and structuring of debt arrangements in connection with leveraged buyouts and other acquisition targets across diversified sectors including manufacturing, retail, real estate, renewable energy and infrastructure. He also has significant experience advising financial sponsors and other public and private companies in connection with their ongoing compliance with their credit arrangements and financing structures.
Ian is a frequent speaker and panelist at financial services seminars for various financial institution clients.
Ian received his BBA (Business Administration - Management & Organizational Studies) from Simon Fraser University in 2004 and his JD from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2007.
Ian was called to the Ontario bar in 2008. He is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Canadian Bar Association and the Ontario Bar Association. He is a member of McCarthy Tetrault’s Student Committee responsible for the recruitment and development of law students.
Catherine Chang
Catherine Chang is Goodmans' Director of Alumni Relations. She is responsible for leading all aspects of Goodmans’ alumni program, including the management of communications with its alumni community and outreach initiatives. Catherine works closely with Goodmans’ Marketing team, practice groups, Technology and Student and Associate development professionals, as well as the alumni community in the development and execution of the firm’s alumni relations program. Catherine studied law at the University of Toronto receiving her LL.B. in 1988 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1990. She received her Bachelor of Mathematics (Honours Computer Science) from the University of Waterloo in 1985. Catherine articled at Goodmans, practiced corporate law as an associate and was previously the Director, Student Programs. She returned to the firm in her role as Director, Alumni Programs in 2011.
Catherine is also a career coach with a Certified Professional Diversity Coach certification.
